Oslo Court Upholds Norway DPA’s Ban of Meta Targeted Advertising
The Oslo District Court denied Meta’s request for a temporary injunction to stop the Norwegian Data Protection Authority’s recent ruling banning Facebook and Instagram from targeted advertising.
According to the Norway DPA’s press release, “The Oslo District Court has now fully upheld the Data Protection Authority in the case”.
TAKEAWAY
The temporary ban has been issued through October with respect to Norwegian users, but the Danish DPA is reportedly considering bringing the decision to the European Privacy Council to extend the ban to apply to the entire EU/EEA.
The European Data Protection Board will also determine whether to extend the decision beyond October.
The decision comes in response to a recent judgment from the European Court of Justice finding that Meta’s behavior-based marketing is not compliant, even after some adjustments.
ICO Poll: Women Value Data Transparency When Selecting Fertility Apps
A poll conducted by the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) revealed that 59% of women surveyed said transparency over how their data was used was a bigger concern than cost or ease of use when selecting a period or fertility tracking app.
TAKEAWAY
In response to the survey results, the ICO says it will be commissioning focus groups and user testing and working with key stakeholders to identify potential harms and negative impacts on users from use of such apps.
